A well-cared-for hank lasts years. A poorly-cared-for one fades, pills, and loses its microfiber bite in a season. Here’s how to keep yours sharp.
Wash
- Cold water. Hot water sets stains and breaks down microfiber.
- Gentle cycle if your machine has one.
- Skip fabric softener. It coats microfiber fibers and ruins their polishing ability. Use it once and the lens-cleaning side never works the same.
- Wash with like fabrics. Other cottons and microfibers, not with towels (lint magnets) or denim (abrasion).
Dry
- Hang dry. Always. No exceptions.
- No dryer heat. Heat is what kills microfiber faster than anything else.
- If you must use a dryer, no-heat / air-fluff only.
Storage
Fold flat. Microfiber holds creases, so a sharp fold is your friend. Don’t leave it crumpled in a glovebox or wadded at the bottom of a bag — that’s how it picks up grit that becomes lens-scratching grit.
Spot cleaning between washes
Hot tap water, no soap, scrub by hand, hang dry. Works for most field stains.
Rotation
If you carry hard, run two hanks — one in service, one in the wash. Most EDC people end up with a small drawer rotation. That’s how this gets fun.
All Renegade Provisions hanks are handmade in small batches.
